About the event

It all began when Tamara Kotevska and Ljubmir Stefanov, who were travelling in northern Macedonia to do research for an environmental documentary, happened to meet Hatidze, one of Europe's last female zeidlers. Fascinated by this incredible personality, the filmmakers accompanied her for three years, from the rocky ridges of the Balkans to places that had crystallised over time.

Honeyland, which was acclaimed in its country of origin and by international critics, is one of those films that cannot easily be pigeonholed, that tells a lot with "little". It is not a film about bees, nor does it specifically highlight the threat these precious guardians of biodiversity face today; rather, it is a multi-layered and nuanced story that tells of the delicate balance between humans and nature and the consequences triggered by human greed and exploitation of natural resources in a domino effect.
