Über die Veranstaltung
2025 will mark the 500th anniversary of the peasant uprisings that broke out in many regions of Central Europe. In view of this commemorative year, the Hofburg in Bressanone (South Tyrol), the Museums of Mühlhäusen (Thuringia) and the Competence Centre for Regional History of the Free University of Bolzano (South Tyrol) are organising a joint conference entitled 'Peasant Revolts in Comparison: Tyrol and Thuringia' from 27-29 September 2023.
The two territories will be compared in eight different thematic blocks. The programme includes legal issues, central personal associations at the administrative level, agricultural foundations, the role of the mines, the work of theologians, attacks on religious institutions, key players and an understanding of events.
The conference will be held at the Hofburg Bressanone, which, as the former seat of the bishop during the Peasants' War, was one of the main targets of the Tyrolean insurgents and is therefore the historical site of the events.
