About the event

This edition contains documents written after the end of the Second World War and not previously published. Prince Bishop Johannes Geisler hired Hans Schoefl as an interpreter in January 1946 in order to be able to contact the leading forces of the Allied military government in Bressanone, Bolzano and Milan. The core of the 223 published documents, in addition to the numerous memoranda, analyses, leaflets and petitions of the Prince Bishop, are the private documents of Hans Schoefl, who, together with Otto von Guggenberg and Friedl Volgger, took part in the peace conference in Paris in order to obtain an autonomy regulation that was fair for South Tyrol in numerous meetings with various delegations immediately before and after the signing of the Gruber-De Gasperi Agreement. The notes of the audiences, which are available in the archives, not only provide an insight into the days that were decisive for South Tyrol's political future, but also valuable information about the complex "birth phase of South Tyrolean autonomy".
